Overview

The MOI PM4 is a high-speed, fully automatic filter rod making machine designed to produce up to 2,500 filter rods per minute. It integrates a dedicated tow-processing unit via an extension shaft for synchronized formation. Built with variable speed drives (VFD) and PLC controls, it ensures excellent rod density uniformity, consistent cut length, and minimal dusting.

How It Works

  1. 1

Cellulose-acetate filter tow is opened and conditioned, with plasticiser added for bonding.

  2. 2

The conditioned tow is gathered and shaped into a continuous filter rod inside a garniture and wrapped in plug-wrap paper.

  3. 3

    The wrap seam is sealed.

  4. 4

The continuous rod is cut into multiple-length filter rods.

  5. 5

Finished rods are delivered to a catcher, tray-filler or conveyor to feed downstream tippers.

Heritage & Lineage

The PM4 belongs to the Molins PM (“Plug Maker”) filter-rod machine family — the upstream machine that forms the filter rods a tipping unit needs. MOI builds on this proven lineage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What filter material does it run?

Cellulose-acetate tow as standard; paper-type filter material on variants built for it.

Where does it sit in the line?

Upstream — it makes the filter rods that a plug assembler / tipper attaches to tobacco rods on a filter-cigarette line.

How are finished rods handled?

Delivered to a hand catcher, automatic tray filler, or conveyor for downstream use.
